The Great Ocean Road and a big part of the purpose of the trip.
After “feasting” at Maccas we were on the road to Port Fairy lighthouse which is situated on Griffiths island at Port Fairy.
It’s about a 2.3km walk return and well worth checking out. Maybe not in winter though as it was a chilly 3°C
Leaving Port Fairy Lighthouse we headed to the Great Ocean Road. There is a lot to see so it’s best to take your time and check it all out. We only had a journey of around 250km and we made a day of it.
If you have a bucket list, make sure you add the Great Ocean road to it, the scenery and sites are simply majestic. From the panoramic views as the road winds along cliff tops, to breathtaking headlands and down onto the beaches themselves.

We had a lunch stop at Port Campbell stopping in at the 12 Rocks Beach Bar Cafe. The plan was to check out Sow and Piglets Brewery, it was closed though.
After lunch we continued on to check out: Loch Ard Gorge, The Razorback, The 12 Apostles, Gibson Steps and Cape Otway lighthouse.
After arriving at Apollo Bay and settling in we wandered up to the Apollo Bay Distillery for a couple of beers.
They have a good range of beers and being a distillery make their own Gin and Vodka. We never got around to sampling them though.
Leaving the distillery we ventured down to the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse where we settled at a table near the log fire.
A great spot to kick back and relax after touring the Great Ocean Road. We had a couple of beers and dinner before returning the The Apollo Apartments for a well deserved rest.
